I photographed a family in Shilin District, Taipei, spending time with them both at home and in a nearby park. Moving between those familiar places gave us a relaxed record of the family’s everyday atmosphere.

Beginning in the family’s own space

At home, there was no need to create an elaborate scene. Familiar rooms and ordinary gestures gave the photographs a sense of belonging that would be difficult to reproduce anywhere else. I followed the family’s rhythm rather than asking everyone to perform for the camera.

A change of air in the park

We also stepped outside for portraits in the neighborhood park. The children could move more freely, and the change of light and background added another layer to the story while keeping the session connected to the places they know.

Family moments exist everywhere

Photographing in Taipei reminded me that the warmth between family members needs very little translation. A glance, a laugh, and the way people naturally gather together can be understood anywhere. It is one of the reasons I value photographing families across different places and cultures.

I am grateful that the family welcomed me into their home and neighborhood. I hope the photographs will grow in meaning as the children grow, and that we can meet again in Taipei one day.
